The Government's EMF Experiments

EMF (Electromagnetic Field) radiation surrounds us constantly. From simple electronic devices such as computers and cellphones to high-voltage power lines overhead, we are bathed in a sea of subtle magnetic frequencies. Some claim that the government has been performing experiments upon its own people using radiation. While many might place this topic squarely in the realm of conspiracy theory, the truth is a bit more complex than could be addressed by fearful fanatics or fluff news articles.
  1. Cold War Experiments

    • Fearful of being caught unaware of the long- and short-term effects of radiation upon our population, the government performed literally thousands of radiation studies during the Cold War. They usually involved the poorest and least capable of understanding or doing anything about the effects of the experiments performed upon them. The innocuously named "Vanderbilt Nutrition Study" delivered oral doses of highly irradiated iron to pregnant women. The "Fernald State School Experiments" offered low doses of irradiated compounds to the oatmeal of mentally handicapped orphans. Agencies throughout the era performed experiments upon soldiers and civilians alike, often without their consent or knowledge. These experiments involved various radiation studies, including EMF tests.

    Modern EMF Studies

    • Papers from the Government's Office of Technological Assessment (OTA) and from the World Health Organization (WHO) make it clear that the government has been undertaking exposure studies related to EMF radiation. The WHO reports do not clarify the extent of exposure or the individuals involved, but express a concern that EMF radiation is responsible for many health maladies, including increased risk for certain cancers, changes in mood and reduction in fertility. The OTA records cite specific examples where humans and animals are part of experiments and go as far as to detail exposures and effects.

    HAARP

    • The High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program being conducted 8 miles north of Gakona, Alaska, relies on multiple broadcasting antennae to send energy into the upper atmosphere. The array of transmitters can output over 3.6 million watts at any given moment into the ionosphere, creating immense electric charges up to 100 miles above the Earth's surface. While the stated intent of the project is to study the physics of the ionosphere, the power released by the project generates an intense electromagnetic field, which in all but name makes HAARP an EMF experiment.

    Conclusions

    • It is likely, given the nearly constant record of performing experiments with radiation throughout history, that the government is currently involved in a number of projects with EMF. Given the military technological ramifications of projects like HAARP in communication and warfare, it would not be a far-fetched conclusion to assume that other EMF projects are being undertaken as part of national security and defense endeavors. However, given the current climate surrounding government secrecy and the intervention of Homeland Defense efforts, it is unlikely that such projects will become part of the public record in the near future.
