How Are Thermocouples Installed?

Temperature is one of the most important physical variables and its measurement is essential within various physical systems. The most common method of measuring temperature is with a thermometer, which consists of a glass tube filled with mercury. As the temperature changes, the mercury expands and contracts, and temperature can be read off a scale. A more modern way of measuring temperature is with a device known as a thermocouple. This consists of a metallic junction whose voltage changes with temperature.

     Check the thermocouple documentation to check the current that is needed. There are many different types of thermocouples and it is important to determine the level of current needed.

     Connect the current source of the inputs of the thermocouple.

     Connect the thermocouple reading unit to the thermocouple. Switch on the thermocouple reading unit. Select the desired temperature units (Celsius or Fahrenheit). Read the value of temperature off the digital display.
