How to Convert UTM Coordinates to State Plane Coordinates

Universal Transverse Mercator, or UTM coordinates, are used to pinpoint a location on Earth. State Plane Coordinates are similar to UTM coordinates; however, they are used by individual states to determine plat lines and county boundaries. Because of the natural curvature of Earth's surface and because SPCs are state-specific, they are not accurate for extremely large surface areas. In some cases, it is necessary to convert UTM coordinates to SPCs.

Instructions

    • 1

Visit Earth Point or a similar conversion website.

    • 2

Enter the UTM coordinate you wish to convert into the field labeled "Position." Do not use latitude and longitude coordinates in the "Position" field.

    • 3

Click "Calc" to translate the coordinate into SPC. Other websites' buttons may vary.
