How to Calculate Log D

A function is an algebraic expression that gives an output for a given input. There many different types of functions, and the most common are exponential, trigonometric and logarithmic. The exponential function raises the the base value "e" (which has value 2.72) to some power. The inverse of this is the logarithmic function that finds the value of the power that some base value is raised to. Both exponential and logarithmic functions can be found for a given value by using a scientific calculator.

Instructions

    • 1

Determine the base of the log that needs to be calculated. There are two main log bases, one is Log_e (log to the base e) and the other is Log_10 (log to the base 10).

    • 2

Switch on the calculator. Type in the value (D) for which the log needs to be calculated.

    • 3

Press the relevant log button. There should be two, one for each base. The answer will appear on the screen.

    • 4

Check the answer. The exponential is the inverse of log_e and the 10^x function is the inverse of the log_10. To ensure that the answer is correct press the relevant inverse function and ensure that the original typed value appears on the screen.
