How to Fold a Foil Hat

Whether to own a fashion piece of headgear or to recreate a science-fiction helmet, making a foil hat can be quite simple. According to the MIT study "On the Effectiveness of Aluminium Foil Helmets: An Empirical Study," an aluminum foil hat may actually enhance radio frequencies to your brain rather than prevent them; they might not work out for paranoiacs hoping to avoid radio brain control, but as an accessory, they can be neat. To fold a foil hat, start with a roll of thick heavy-duty aluminum foil. Heavy duty foil holds its shape better and will bear less damage if accidentally crushed.

Instructions

    • 1

Roll out a 18-inch square from your 18-inch wide heavy duty aluminum foil roll. This should be sufficient for most heads.

    • 2

Place the sheet centrally on top of your head. Press the sides down so it covers your head like a cap.

    • 3

Roll the front up to create a brim. Fold up and press the brim down into shape. Roll the left and right sides up to create a brim. Fold them up and press them down so it keeps its shape.

    • 4

Roll up the back of the hat. Remove the hat carefully as to not crush any of your work. Fold the back sides in place like the front. The entire hat should have a brim around it. This may give some sun protection if you plan on wearing the hat outside.

    • 5

Place the hat back on your head. Examine it for any necessary changes. You want it to be even all over. Press or push any parts into place.
