How to Do a Series Circuit Project

There are two types of circuits in basic electronics: parallel and series. Creating a circuit with parts or components in a series is the easiest of the two and usually requires the least amount of wiring and work. Depending on exactly what type of project or function is desired, several other components are required. It is possible it accomplish this task with common household items are used.

Things You'll Need

  • Wire (18-gauge works well) or aluminum foil
  • two flashlight lamps
  • two AA batteries
  • duct tape
  • Scissors

Instructions

    • 1
The smaller the diamater of the wire the higher the gauge number.

Cut the wire into three strips each about 6 inches long. If using aluminum foil then cut three strips each about 6 inches long and a 1/4 inch wide.

    • 2

Stack the batteries together positive end to negative end and use duct tape to secure them from coming apart.

    • 3

Use the duct tape to fasten a wire or foil strip to the positive end of the battery assembly and a different wire or foil strip for the negative end. Essentially the battery assembly will have to wires attached to its terminals, a positive one and a negative one.

    • 4

Attach the positive wire to the bottom of a lamp and attach the last free wire to the middle of the same lamp by using duct tape.

    • 5
These lights, similar the project above, are connected in series.

Tape the wire from the middle of the first lamp to the bottom of the second and attach the negative wire from the bottom of the batteries to the middle of the second lamp. The lights are now connected in series.
