How to Make a Projectile

A projectile is any object in motion, whether it is being hurled, shot, thrown, catapulted or any other number of ways to get it in the air. It creates a trajectory, or path, before it hits the ground. To make a projectile, you must first have or make an item that is capable of putting the projectile into the air such as a catapult or slingshot. If you wish to make your own projectile, a slingshot is a great way to begin because it doesn't take a lot of time, skill or supplies.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect the 1/4-inch drill bit to the drill. Use it to drill two holes on opposite sides of the funnel about 1 inch from the top of the funnel.

    • 2

Stick one of the pieces of surgical tubing through one of the holes. Tie the end in a knot so that it won't slip back through the hole. Leave the other end of the surgical tubing hanging. Repeat this step with the other piece of the surgical tubing, putting it through the hole on the opposite side.

    • 3

Tighten both knots, pulling on them to make sure they will not come loose. If they come loose now, they will almost certainly come loose when you are trying to launch your projectile.

    • 4

Fill a water balloon up with water and tie it up. Place it in the mouth of the funnel.

    • 5

Instruct two friends to each grab one piece of the tubing while you hold the funnel with the water balloon in it. Have them pull tightly on the tubing as you release the funnel. The water balloon should shoot into the air, causing a projectile.
