How to Cut a Pizza Into 11 Slices With Four Straight Cuts

Geometry tricks that allow you to create a specific amount of sections with only a minimal number of straight lines can be difficult to figure out, but interesting to learn. These tricks can also impress your friends and family. For instance, you can cut your next pizza into 11 pieces by making only four straight-line cuts. (The pieces will not be equal like they are with typical pizza cuts.)

Instructions

    • 1

Cut the pizza in half down the center with your first cut.

    • 2

Slice the pizza perpendicular to the first cut about an inch short of an equal half. This creates four pieces, two of them bigger than the other two.

    • 3

Begin the third cut an inch to the right of the left end of the second cut. This cut should intersect the second line about two inches into the pizza and intersect the first line just beyond the center point of the pizza, ending about three inches to the left of the other end of the second cut. At this point, you should have seven pieces of various shapes and size.

    • 4

Start the fourth cut about an inch to the right of the right end of the second cut you made. Intersect the second line about an inch-and-a-half in from the edge of the pizza and intersect the first and third lines about an inch from their intersection point, to create a small triangle, ending two to three inches to the left of the first cut. You should now have 11 pieces of pizza.
