How to Use a pH Reducer

pH problems in pool water and in water for domestic and industrial use is common. The pH levels are monitored between a range of 1.0 to 10.0. pH. A level of 7.0 is considered to be the best for swimming because it is neutral. Any value below 7.0 is acidic and above 7.0 is considered to be basic or alkaline. Extreme pH levels of both acidic and alkaline nature is considered to be harmful and should be corrected.

Instructions

    • 1

Procure muriatic acid from a chemical store to reduce the pH.

    • 2

Measure the pH with the pH testing kit. Read the instructions provided with the kit to measure the pH.

    • 3

Prepare the pH reducing solution with water and muriatic acid. Always add acid to water, never add water to the acid. Normally add four parts water to one part acid.

    • 4

Add 24 oz. of acid to around 100 oz. of water in a bucket to make a pH reducing solution for existing pH level of 8.0 to 8.4.

    • 5

Mix the solution in the water. Use a pump if needed for better mixing. Wait for four hours and let the pH reduce.

    • 6

Check the pH level and repeat the procedure if the level is still above the range of 7.0 to 7.4.
