How to Test Titration

Titration is a very sensitive process, in which one reagent is added in a drop-by-drop fashion to another. This is because titration is to determine the concentration of an unknown substance by measuring the changes this substance produces in a substance of known concentration. It is most common to use the pH of a known substance as the reference point because a pH meter easily measures the pH after each drop.

Instructions

    • 1

      Calibrate your pH meter in a neutral solution such as water by pressing the "Measure" button. It should be between 6.9 - 7.2 pH.

      Carefully add one drop of your unknown reagent at a time.

      After each drop, test the pH using the pH meter. Record the number of drops used to effect a change.
