How to Convert Dram to ML

The apothecary system of dispensing medicines predates modern pharmacies, but some of the weights and measures of those bygone days still remain. On the other hand, the metric system, which uses units of milliliters (mL), is very wide spread today. The fluid dram is a unit from the apothecary system and, although it is not used very often, you may still encounter it. It is equal to about one eighth of an ounce, and you can convert drams into milliliters by a simple conversion factor.

Instructions

    • 1

Enter the your value of volume, in units of drams, into the calculator. For example, if you were required to take a dose of 5 drams of medicine, you would enter 5.

    • 2

Multiply the value you just entered by 3.697. This is the conversion factor between fluid drams and milliliters.

    • 3

Report or record the result of the calculation as the volume in units of milliliters. In the case of the example, you would multiply 5 by 3.697 to obtain a value of 18.5 mL of medicine.
