Strawberry
The strawberry is a popular fruit known for its sweet taste. The fruit is a good source of antioxidants and several nutrients including vitamin C, fiber, riboflavin and potassium. Unfortunately, strawberries are also a delicate and highly perishable fruit. According to The World's Healthiest Foods, strawberries can last two days without any significant loss in vitamin C and antioxidants. After those days, the fruit begins to oxidize at a rapid rate.
Raspberry
A raspberry is a small berry that is characterized by having a sweet and tart taste. The fruit is typically in season from June through October, with its most cultivated varieties coming from California. Like the strawberry, the raspberry is rich in antioxidants, vitamin C and dietary fiber. Unfortunately, the raspberry is highly perishable and should be purchased a day before eating. The fruit will stay fresh in the refrigerator for up to two days.
Fig
Common fig fruit is known for its chewy flesh and crunchy seeds. Figs are typically available from June until autumn. The majority of figs are dried to be enjoyed year-round. The fruit has a high dietary fiber content. Fresh figs should be purchased a day or two before being eaten. The fruit can be refrigerated for up to three days before spoiling.
Blackberry
Blackberries are very similar in size and shape to raspberries. However, when fully ripened, the fruit turns a very dark purple color. Blackberries, unlike raspberries, have a greenish-white core (raspberries have a hollow core). Like raspberries, blackberries are a good source of antioxidants and vitamin C. However, the fruit is extremely perishable as well. Ripe blackberries should be eaten within three days of purchase, and only last in the refrigerator for a couple of days.
