Science Ideas for Research Proposals

Research proposals are scientific project proposals that address a specific topic, new or current to academic or scientific research field. Specific guidelines for research proposals vary, depending on the company or university to which the proposal is being submitted. Researchers should look for relevant areas of research in their field toward which grant proposals are currently being accepted. For instance; the WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) has a list of 2011 Research Areas of Interest which will be funded.

Detection of Prohibited Substances
- For biochemistry researchers using immuno-based assays, such as enzymatic assays or flow cytometry, the detection of prohibited substances or doping substances is of current interest to the Wold Anti-Doping Agency. A research proposal can be created to find the best method for detecting doping substances in human blood or urine.
Genetics and Tomatoes
- A current topic of interest in the genetic agricultural field are tomatoes and their spoiling time. Tomatoes have about a 20 percent loss to spoilage, per the USDA Economic Research Service. Current research is underway to find a method to increase the shelf life of these tomatoes through genetic engineering. Therefore, this is a great topic to propose as a research topic.
Insectides Ideas
- A current hot topic for 2011 includes different ways to improve fighting insect pests that invade crops and infect livestock. In addition, some insect pest carry human diseases such as malaria, dengue and West Nile virus. The search for new insecticides is a necessity and researchers with an interest in creating insecticides should propose a research proposal.
Pollution and the Aquatic Environment
- Marine Biologists interested in toxicology or biochemistry can propose research ideas to address the extent of human impacts to aquatic wildlife, relating to environmental pollution, particularly chemicals or wastewater released to the ocean environment. Analzying both water samples and fish tissue samples can lead to ideas on human impact from environmental pollutants.
