How to Convert Milliliters to Square Centimeters

Milliliters are a unit of volume in the metric system. One cubic meter contains 1,000,000 milliliters, while one liter equals to 1,000 milliliters. Also, one milliliter corresponds to one cubic centimeter. Square centimeters measure the area. Converting between volume and area require an additional parameter such as a height. For example, you need to calculate the area of a fish tank if its volume is given in milliliters.

  Multiply the dimension in inches by 2.54 to convert it to centimeters. In this example, the height is 15 x 2.54 = 38.1 centimeters.

  Divide the volume in milliliters by the height in centimeters to calculate the are in square centimeters. For example, if the volume of the fish tank is 5,000 milliliters (5 liters) then the area is 5,000 / 38.1 = 131.2336 square centimeters.

  Round the result of the area calculation as necessary; for example, rounding the area to tenth yields 131.2 square centimeters.
