How to Make a Zoon Balloon

A Zoon balloon is a type of miniature hot-air balloon that can be constructed out of tissue paper, then launched from the comfort of your own home. The Zoon hot-air balloon kit comes with nearly everything needed to construct the balloon while the outdoor launcher comes with everything needed to launch it. The Zoon balloon kit serves as a fun yet educational way to teach children about the concepts of temperature, density and buoyancy.

Instructions

    • 1

Glue together the edges of the tissue paper to form three 20-inch-by-60-inch panels. Stack the panels on top of one another, then fold in half.

    • 2

Place the Zoon template over the tissue paper, securing it with paper clips. Cut the tissue paper into the shape of the template. This will give you six panels to work with.

    • 3

Glue the edges of the panels together so they form the circular balloon. Once the glue dries, tape the edges together to further secure the balloon. This will prevent hot air from escaping later.

    • 4

Cut a circle 4 inches in diameter out of the remaining tissue paper. Glue this to the top of the balloon. Secure the circle with tape.

    • 5

Shape two pipe cleaners together into a circle. Glue this to the bottom of the balloon. The pipe cleaners will help catch the hot air to make the balloon rise.

    • 6

Take the balloon outside. Hold the balloon 1 inch from the top of the launcher and ignite the gas. Hot air will begin to fill the balloon until it drifts up into the air.
