How to Wash Chemicals With Distilled Water

In laboratories and other settings that involve the use of harsh or dangerous chemicals, safety is of the utmost importance. However, even those who abide by safety procedures can fall victim to accidents. If you spill chemicals on your skin, eyes or clothing, it's imperative that you wash as quickly as possible. Washing with distilled water (from which all impurities and contaminants have been removed) is one way of handling such incidents.

Instructions

    • 1

Brush off any dried chemical residue.

    • 2

      Remove contaminated clothing.

    • 3

Pour a steady stream of distilled water over the area the chemicals have come into contact with. Make sure to rinse thoroughly, using as much distilled water as necessary.

    • 4

Flush your eyes with distilled water if necessary. Consult a physician immediately.
