How to Make Whistle Rockets

For the Fourth of July, you can shoot a whistle rocket in the sky. Whistle rockets gets their name from the very loud whistling sound they make when shot into the air. Once you have built your rocket, it will need to be pressed and stabilized during its flight time. These procedures are important for safety and performance of your rocket. If you follow the procedures correctly, you will have a rocket in no time. However, make sure you avoid injuries and starting a fire.

  • Whistle rocket kit
  • Powder scoop
  • Paper tube (for casing)
  • Whistle rocket mix (propellant)
  • Black match

Instructions

  1. Whistle Rocket Construction

    • 1

Slide the tube inside the reinforcing sleeve. Connect the tube on the whistle spindle base. Add the whistle rocket mix in small increments using a powder scoop.

    • 2

Insert the rammer with the hole into the tube. Press the mix and repeat until the rammer has cleared the spindle.

    • 3

Continue to press the whistle rocket mix into the tube until it is about an inch above the spindle using the solid rammer. Remove the reinforcing sleeve and the spindle from the whistle rocket.

    • 4

Glue the paper end plug on the inside of the top of the tube to give the rocket a cosmetic effect.

    • 5

Attach a fuse to the side inner wall of the rocket using hot glue so it will touch the composition. Apply the hot glue directly to the fuse using a very small amount.

    Rocket Stabilization

    • 6

Attach a stick to the side of your finished rocket.

    • 7

Balance your rocket on your finger by placing your finger behind the exhaust nozzle. The stick must stand straight in order for rocket to fly vertically.

    • 8

Trim the stick if it is too long or leaning.

    • 9

Replace the stick with a larger one if the stick is not heavy or long enough.
