How to Draw a Pentacle

A pentacle is a geometric shape based on the five-pointed star. Many diverse religious and spiritual groups use the pentacle symbol to represent aspects of their beliefs, or as a protective device. For example, in the Wicca tradition, the five points of the pentacle represent earth, air, fire, water and spirit. People who practice Paganism may wear pentacle-shaped jewelry as an emblem of their faith. You can draw a pentacle using a compass, ruler and protractor.

Instructions

    • 1

Draw a circle using the compass and mark the center of the circle as a reference point. You can draw the circle as large as you like. Remember that the radius is half the length of the diameter. For instance, if you want a pentacle that is 4 inches wide, the radius must be 2 inches.

    • 2

Draw a radius line from the center of the circle to the edge of the circle using the ruler. You will erase this line later since it is not part of the pentacle. For now it will serve as a guide to help you draw the five points.

    • 3

Draw another radius line that is at an angle of 72 degrees from the previous line.

    • 4

Repeat Step 3 until you have five lines originating from the center of the circle, each separated by an angle of 72 degrees from its neighbors.

    • 5

Mark the five points on the outside of the circle where the radius lines end. Label the points with the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 in order.

    • 6

Erase the five radius lines that you drew earlier since you no longer need them.

    • 7

Draw five lines that connect five pairs of non-adjacent points The five lines will connect 1 and 3, 3 and 5, 5 and 2, 2 and 4 and finally 4 and 1. See the image in the second reference.
