How to Make a Defense Amulet

Talismanic magick is one of the most challenging branches of the occult arts. Producing amulets takes a considerable amount of time and energy on the part of the magus. While a talisman is an object that exerts an auto-suggestive effect on the wearer toward one specified purpose, an amulet exerts a broad-spectrum protective effect on the bearer, preventing sickness, misfortune and curses. The object to become an amulet may be of any provenance, profane or sacred, consecrated or uncleansed, charged or banal, inscribed or uninscribed (with a sigil, or occult symbol). Transforming it into an amulet requires extensive experience with sigil making, inscription and ritual cleansing.

Things You'll Need

Object of power
Inscribing tool
Water
Sea salt
Appropriate sigil
Crystal basin
White silk

Instructions

Cleansing

  Place the object to be cleansed into the bottom of the crystal basin.

  Dissolve one part sea salt in 10 parts water, creating enough solution to fully cover the object in the basin.

  Leave the basin out under the light of a full moon for one full night.

  Remove the object from the basin the following morning, drying it thoroughly. It is now cleansed and ready for use.
Inscription
- 5
  Identify an appropriate sigil for protection. The name or sign of the angel Gabriel is a common choice for protective amulets, although using a sigil that has a personal resonance with the wearer will be more effective.

  Identify some appropriate names of power for framing the sigil. The secret name "EMPEH ARSL GAIOL" is often used above the sigil. The bottom of the sigil is often framed with the secret name "YHVH TZABAOTH."

  Use an inscribing tool such as a Dremel tool or athame (sacred knife) to scratch the sigil into the surface of the object.

  Finish the inscription by scratching the secret names first above and then below the sigil.

  Wrap the object in white silk in preparation for charging.
Charging

  Hold the silk-wrapped object between clasped hands.

  Visualize twin vortices of cosmic energy penetrating the crown of your head, then moving through your arms and hands into the object.

  Visualize the sigil in your mind as framed in fire, transferring your mental image of it into the heart of the object.

  Say the secret name above the sigil aloud four times, then say the secret name below the sigil aloud four times.

  Unwrap the newly created amulet, keeping it on your person at all times to take advantage of its effects.
