How to Learn Ancient English Magic

People in ancient England practiced a religion that used magic to enhance the quality of life. The magic workers were often referred to as Druids or Druidesses. These individuals led the sacred rites and rituals practiced by the people living in ancient England. While much has been lost in the way of the beliefs held by Druids and their form of magic use, historians have begun to piece together some of the symbolism, rituals and rites that they used. This means that you can learn some of the magic practices yourself.

Instructions

    • 1

Study everything you can get your hands on about Druids. Some ancient texts suggest that Druids may have studied 20 years to master their office and the arts that were expected of them. Familiarize yourself with the Gods and Goddesses worshipped by the Druids. These include Arawn, Cerridwen, Danu and Lugh, among many others. Learn about the Druidic beliefs regarding morality and the afterlife. The ancient English people valued honor, loyalty, honesty, justice, courage and hospitality. They believed the soul was everlasting and that life continued after death. In learning these things, you will begin to form a basis for practicing ancient English magic.

    • 2

Practice the skills needed to perform ancient English magic. The Druids used meditation, visualization, prayer, communion with nature, the projection of energy and sacrifice to conduct magic. Each of these skills takes time, practice and effort. Sacrifice refers to the giving of your own labor to honor the sacred--not the killing and burning of animals.

    • 3

Memorize important symbols for ancient English magic. The image of a tree with its roots bending upward and its branches bending downward to form a circle is a symbol of the universe and everything within it. A circle divided into six even sections is a symbol of the sun and the seasonal cycles. Colors, plants, animals, numbers and words may all carry special symbolism. You can use these symbols when you meditate; visualize or perform other magical acts to add extra power to them.

    • 4

Document any rituals or rites you perform. Write down what you did, why you did it and the expected results. Then pay attention and write down the actual results. Magic is not flash-in-the-pan fast. It is the slow-working transformation of the world around you in accordance with your desires and will. Be patient when observing the results of your work.

    • 5

Share what you learn with others who are interested in the magic of the ancient English people. The Druids passed their knowledge on through a robust oral tradition. Out of respect for the magic you are studying, so should you.
