Things You'll Need
Instructions
Find a glass jar, such as a spaghetti sauce or jelly jar. Take off the label and clean the jar thoroughly.
Find a spell for the particular magic you want to do. Spells for different purposes require different objects or herbs, and even similar spells between magic users can vary slightly. You can find spells by looking in grimoires or modern magic books. Try to find a spell that you're attracted to and will feel comfortable performing.
Read the spell and determine what objects and herbs you'll need to put in the jar. Each jar spell is different, but they are the same in that objects such as pins or photos, and specific herbs will need to be placed in the jar. Fill the jar with these things until it is about half full.
Mix a solution of salt and water. You'll only need a small amount of salt, just enough to make the water slightly salty. You can also use holy water, depending on your beliefs. Pour this over the objects in the jar, filling it almost to the top. Some spell jars don't call for this step, so make sure you research the individual spell you're working with.
Seal the jar tightly, cap it, and then melt wax around the seal so it is very secure.
Draw runes or symbols on the jar that correspond to your spell. You can draw these symbols on the top and sides of the jar by using either a black marker or a piece of white chalk.
Speak magic words or phrases over the spell. Some spells are specific about the words you should use. Otherwise, you can simply state the purpose of the spell in order to give it power. Other spells take it a step further, asking you to clap or pray over your spell jar. Some spells require that you light a candle on or near the spell jar.
Follow the steps in the spell as to what to do with your spell jar after it's finished. Some spells, such as protection spells or spells avoiding negative energy, ask you to bury it. Others need you to keep it close, periodically changing the ingredients in the jar for fresh ones in order to keep them working properly.
