How to Make Catalytic Lamp Fuel Oil

Replacing candles and incense, catalytic lamps are decorative pieces that release aromatic oils into the surrounding environment. Preferred scented oils for catalytic lamps vary immensely from person to person. Knowing how to make your own fragrance blend gives you the opportunity to use it in your catalytic lamp and freshen up any room. Regardless of the scents you use to create the fragrant lamp oil, your creativity and nose for aromatics will help guide you through this long-lasting craft endeavor.

Things You'll Need

3 oz. mineral oil
2 oz. coconut carrier oil
1 oz. scented oil blend

Instructions

  Remove the lid and stone from the opening of the catalytic lamp. Add the mineral oil to the lamp.

  Add the coconut oil. The coconut oil thins out the mineral oil a little bit and serves as a thinner for the fragrant oils you add. This cuts down on black smoke when the stone is being heated.

  Mix a 1 oz. blend of scented oils, whether you use fragrances or essential oils. A half-ounce of banana fragrance and a half-ounce cream fragance gives you a delicious, dessert scent. Add this blend to the lamp.

  Secure the stone into the opening of the lamp, and cover it securely with the lid. Shake the catalytic lamp vigorously for a minute to disperse the solution within it. Use the lamp as normal to take advantage of the scent you create.
