Learn the rune symbols. You can find this information in books like "The Book of Runes: Read the Secrets in the Language of the Stones" by Frances Melville or on websites like www.runes.info.
Write down your text in English. Check the corresponding rune symbol. Some rune symbols correlate to a single English letter while others stand for multiple letters or sounds. The letter F is the rune symbol Fehu, for example, while the symbol sowilo is for "s" or soft "c" as in "pounce."
Recognize the fact that some rune symbols stand only for sounds and not letters. For example, Ingwaz is the name of the symbol for ng dipthong like in the word "cling."
Practice writing the symbols. It may be hard to copy them at first, but if you've ever tried your hand at calligraphy, it will be easier.
Drop duplicate letters or silent letters, such as the "e" at the end of "nope." Try using modern phonetics to spell out the words before translating them. Write them out like the pronunciation tips next to dictionary entries.
