Assess the condition of action figures. If you'd like a number of your figures to remain in the packaging, this will require more space and a different display setup than for figures without plastic and cardboard casings.
Select which figures you'd like to display. If you've got a huge collection, weeding out only the cream-of-the-crop can give you less clutter. On top of this, it will also highlight only worthy figures and will not overwhelm viewers.
Decide in what rooms and spaces you'd like to display your figures. A single room or multiple ones? At home or at work? While you might like to see your collection in the office, this may only be appropriate at certain jobs. Ask supervisors directly if displaying figures at work is OK if you are in doubt.
Research options. The Internet is a valuable resource for finding how other collectors have decided to display the goods, and this may give you some ideas and insight into how to design your own space. Bookcases, curio cabinets and tiered shelving are a few standard options, as well as shelves dedicated to displaying figures. Some avid collectors even build or purchase intricate themed backdrops for figures. Take every idea you like and try to meld it into something that will work for your collection and space.
Purchase materials and start setting up your display. Figuring out a budget ahead of time is a good way to prevent overspending.
Set up your figures. This may be one of the most exciting parts for collectors, as you finally get to see all of your diligence pay off in a single space. Try to avoid a sense of clutter if you've got a massive amount of figures, and put your favorite figures in the most visible spaces to make your display area more satisfying.
Show off your display to family, friends and other collectors. Having your buddies stand in awe of your collection may be one of the most rewarding things about finally finding a way to display your action figures.
