Cut a craft stick down the middle length-wise with a utility knife. This will leave you with two long vertical pieces.
Cut the two pieces in half across the craft sticks. Now you have four half pieces of a single craft stick. Set two pieces aside.
Stack two pieces on top of each other. Place a dab of super glue between them, spread it out evenly and press firmly to set in place.
Cut the two remaining pieces in half again. This will leave you with four small pieces. Place a dab of super glue on each piece and press together to stack the pieces together.
Lay the stack of four pieces on the top of the two glued pieces to form the top of the sledgehammer. Lay it on the top edge with the smooth surface facing down and so the edges slightly hang over each side like the top of a sledgehammer. Place a dab of superglue underneath the four stack and press firmly to secure it in place.
Cut pieces of black duct tape into small strips. Keep the width around a quarter inch, but you do not need exact measurements. Twenty to thirty strips will be enough to cover the handle completely.
Wrap small strips of black duct tape around the handle section of the sledgehammer. Layer the tape on so it slightly overlaps the previous strip until you cover the whole handle. Add an extra layer for more cushion on the handle.
Cut and wrap small strips of silver duct tape around the hammer part of the sledge hammer. Use three layers so the wood does not break or poke through the tape.
