How to Paint White Scars

The online game "Warhammer 40000" takes players to a futuristic, war-torn battlefront full of combatants, one of which is the White Scars. Fans can purchase "Warhammer" merchandise at many retailers, and one of the products offered to customers is customizable Scars that can be hand painted. These replicas of the in-game race of formidable space Marines can be painted white, their chosen armor color for the battlefield.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn the lamp on and adjust it to a comfortable setting that allows you to see directly in front of you. You don't want the light to be too close that you can't see what you're doing, though. Lay a clean cloth out on a flat and stable surface to prepare your work area.

    • 2

Spray white primer over the entirety of your Scar in another area, away from where you'll be doing the actual painting. The flat white primer will create a better bonding surface for the acrylic paint, as well as allow the white paint to have a glossy, even appearance.

    • 3

Allow the primer to dry, usually about 10 minutes or so. Only one coat is needed; too much and you'll cover up the armor's fine detailing. Don a pair of latex gloves to prevent the skin oil on your fingertips from tarnishing the primer and stand one Scar on the cloth underneath the lamp.

    • 4

Use the fine bristled brush to paint into and over existing lines and crevices in the Scar's armor. This will add a detail of shadow to the finished project and make the armor appear as it does in the game. Slowly and carefully paint the guns and jetpacks with black as well.

    • 5

Paint the large shoulder guards with red acrylic paint. Paint additional details like the Scar's breastplate insignia with red. While you're allowing the paint to dry, mix the white and gray acrylic paint in equal amounts in a small, disposable bowl; set aside.

    • 6

Hold the Scar directly underneath the lamp and take note of what areas are shaded from the overhead light. Paint each of these darkened areas with the white/gray paint mix to simulate shadow from the "sun." Allow these areas to dry. Paint all other areas of exposed primer on the Scar with pure white acrylic paint.
