How to Make an Origami Light Saber

Light sabers are sword-like weapons seen in Star Wars. It's common to see plastic versions of the movie prop made out of plastic. Some even light up or glow in the dark. However, these toys can also be made from paper. Using the Chinese art of paper-folding known as origami, you can create a light saber that is safe to play with and cheap to make. Child and adult Star Wars fans alike may especially find this to be an amusing craft project. It's rather simple and doesn't take long to complete.

Instructions

    • 1

Make a crease in the middle of the paper. Fold the paper in half to create a crease. Unfold the paper so that it is flat again.

    • 2

Create another crease on one half of the paper. Fold one edge of the paper to meet the center crease. Then unfold the paper so that it is flat with a remaining crease.

    • 3

Cut along the second crease line with a pair of scissors. Place the smaller piece to the side.

    • 4

Fold the remaining paper into thirds the long way, or lengthwise. Make the fold very sharp at the crease. Open the folded paper once again so that it is flat with creases.

    • 5

Fold the bottom third of the paper upward while holding the paper with the long way vertical or going up and down.

    • 6

Fold the paper in thirds while holding it the long way. Open the folds.

    • 7

Fold the right, bottom corner toward the top left corner.

    • 8

Refold the paper into thirds following the creases from the previous time folding the paper into thirds.

    • 9

Insert the bottom, left corner into the pocket that now exists on the bottom, right side.

    • 10

Fold the top two folders of the paper together at an angle to the center to created a point on the top of the paper.

    • 11

Make the light saber more narrow. Fold both sides of the paper the long way inward toward the middle crease of the paper.

    • 12

Create a small point to the light saber. Fold the top two corners of the paper inward to meet one another in the center.

    • 13

Make the light saber three dimensional. Pinch the sides of the light saber slightly together and pop the middle crease outward on both sides.
