How to Paint an Ultramarine

Ultramine figurines represent the devout adherents of the Codex Asthartes space marine doctrine, as featured in the 2009 animated film. Ultramarines are more muscular and more ferocious than regular marines. These marines are typically blue and black with gold trim and red eyes. The marines hold a black and silver gun. Painting Ultramarine figurines requires patience. You must allow each layer of paint to dry properly before painting over it. If you paint over a wet coat of paint, you cause smearing and stains.

Instructions

    • 1

Apply a thin coat of black primer to the surface of the Ultramarine. Hold the spray primer about 9 inches away from the figurine and spray. Allow the primer to dry for about an hour.

    • 2

Paint the armor of the figurine. Dip your paintbrush in the blue paint and apply paint to the armor areas such as the back and arms. Do not paint the trim, insignia or metal areas. Lightly brush paint across the armor. Allow the paint to dry and apply another coat. Continue applying coats until the armor reaches the desired depth of blue.

    • 3

Paint the trim of the armor with metallic gold paint. Dip the paint in the metallic gold paint and run the brush over the trim. Paint the trim and the eagle on the chest piece.

    • 4

Apply metallic silver paint to the chest eagle on the Ultramarine. Apply the metallic silver paint to the details on the marine's gun such as the handle and trigger.

    • 5

Highlight the armor's edges with white paint.

    • 6

Paint the eyes with red paint. Paint the entire crevice of the eye. Allow the red to dry. Place a white dot in the rear corner of both eyes.
