Tribes
Bionicles are grouped into different tribes of about six characters. The Glatorian Bionicles were released in 2009 and include the characters Skrall, Malum, Gresh, Tarix, Strakk and Vorox.
Construction
Bionicles are constructed from custom LEGO pieces, unique to each Bionicle character. Different characters in each tribe series have different colors but children can mix and match to create their own multi-colored Bionicle as well.
Movement and Weapons
Once constructed, Bionicles are fully poseable and can stand on their own. Some Bionicles have working weapons to add to the fantasy play, and can shoot small plastic balls from their rib cages or fire missiles off their backs.
Movies
After the success of the toys, the Bionicles moved to the big screen and DVD. Bionicle: Mask of Light appeared in 2003, Bionicle 2: Legends of Metru Nui in 2004, Bionicle 3: Web of Shadows in 2005 and Bionicle: The Legend Reborn was released in 2009.
Books
Scholastic has published several series of Bionicle books for 6- to 12-year olds, including the Legends series, and a numbered "reader" series ranging from easy readers to more advanced stories. Papercutz released a Bionicle graphic novel series in 2009.

Bionicle Hero is available for PC, Wii, Nintendo DS, XBOX 360, PS2, Game Boy Advance and GameCube. An older game, Bionicle: The Game, is available for Mac/PC, PS2, XBOX, Game Boy Advance and GameCube.
