Things You'll Need
Instructions
Hold the loose end of a roll of three-fourths of an inch of poly tubing in one hand while standing. Pull the tubing off its roll with your other hand to form a circle that sits on the ground and is between the height of your navel and shoulders. Mark the area where the loose end meets the opposite end with a carpenter̵7;s pencil.
Lay the poly tubing on a flat surface. Cut halfway through the tubing with a hacksaw and turn the tubing and cut through the other half. Make a clean, straight cut by holding the hacksaw vertical to the tubing.
Pour about 30 small dried beans into the poly tubing if you want the hula hoop to make noise while in use.
Plug in an electric hair dryer. Turn the hair dryer on the hottest setting and direct the airflow on each cut end of the poly tubing to soften it. This will take about one to two minutes.
Press three-fourth of an inch poly tubing connector into one end of the tubing. Press the opposite end into the other end of tubing.
Wrap two revolutions of duct tape around the junction of tubing. Open the seam on a stick of 1-inch black foam pipe insulation and insert the hula hoop in it. Continue pressing the hula hoop into the foam, working around in a circle until it is fully covered. Cut off any excess insulation with scissors.
Place the tip of a roll of colored electrical tape on the hula hoop at a 45-degree angle. Wrap the roll around the hula hoop to make colorful stripes. Add additional colors for stripes in between the first color.
