How to Build a Carnival Games Ring Toss

A carnival-style ring toss game, where stakes are arranged in rows so rings can be thrown at them in order to catch rings on the posts, is a simple project you can build for backyard fun using materials found at most home improvement or hardware stores. No special woodworking knowledge is required and kids can get involved by painting the game platform, if desired. Adults should perform the drilling of the platform away from the little hands and eyes of children. Saw off the ends of wood dowels and drill holes for the screws if you are looking for a less expensive option.

Things You'll Need

  • Scrap wood, at least 3 inches thick, cut to 3 feet by 3 feet
  • Pencil
  • Measuring tape
  • Drill
  • 9 table legs of different lengths with attached screws
  • Epoxy glue
  • Paint and paint brushes (optional)
  • Several flying discs with holes in center available at toy stores

Instructions

    • 1

Lay scrap wood on a flat surface. Measure and mark three rows of three dots approximately every 12 inches across. Measurements do not have to be exact; you can randomly arrange the nine dots evenly across the wood, if desired.

    • 2

Drill holes approximately one-half-inch deep on each of the nine dots on the wood.

    • 3

Dribble a small amount of epoxy glue into each hole.

    • 4

Fit the screw of each table leg into each hole, turning and pushing so that each leg is flush with the wood surface.

    • 5

Allow epoxy glue to dry, as directed by the manufacturer.

    • 6

Paint the game board different colors, if desired, and allow the paint to dry.

    • 7

Play ring toss by tossing the flying disks at the table legs, trying to catch the ring on the leg.
