How to Make a Boomerang Out of Cardboard That Works

No one is certain of the origin of the boomerang, but most people assume it originated in Australia. This is because the Australian Aborigines continue to use and rely on the boomerang for hunting rather than a bow and arrow. Originally boomerangs were carved out of wood, but the modern boomerang is made from a variety of materials including paxolin, carbon fiber, Finnish wood and even cardboard.

Instructions

    • 1
Corrugated cardboard comes in different thicknesses.

Lay the cardboard on the cutting mat.

    • 2

Use the ruler and a marker to measure and mark two rectangles measuring 1 foot by 2 inches.

    • 3

Cut the rectangles out of the cardboard using the craft knife.

    • 4

Decorate the two rectangles of you wish with stickers, or draw on them with crayons and markers.

    • 5

Lay one cardboard rectangle over the other in the same direction, and hold the two pieces together with one elastic band. Wrap the band as many times as necessary to hold securely together without bending the cardboard pieces.

    • 6

Turn the top cardboard rectangle to form a cross. Hold the center of the cross in one hand to keep it's shape and the second elastic band in the other.

    • 7

Slip the second elastic band over the top of the cross; then wrap at a diagonal over and under the right or left side of the cross shape. The two elastic bands will form an X in the center of the cross.

    • 8

Adjust the cardboard pieces and elastic bands as necessary, and give your new boomerang a toss.
