How to Make a Hoop Rope Ladder

If you have a tree house or other raised platform that you have to climb into, making yourself a rope ladder, without wooden footholds, is quick and easy. By simply tying loops into a length of rope, you can climb right up it, using the loops as foot and hand holds. This will take a little practice because loop ladders are a little tricky to climb, but once you get it, you will find it easier and easier.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Tie one end of your rope to a fixed surface then unravel the rope, extending away from this point.

    • 2

Begin at the slack end of the rope by tying a Manharness knot. Make a large overhand knot and pull the bight (slack loop of the rope) through and under the loop. Pull the loop tight, away from the fixed end of the rope, to tighten.

    • 3

Tie a series of Manharness knots along its length, spaced about every 18 inches.

    • 4

Attach one of the Marharness loops to a fixed point and climb up the rope by placing your feet in the loops, as well as your hands, and climbing as you would a traditional ladder, using the loops as foot and hand holds.
