How to Make Your Own Hoop Based on Your Height

Hula hooping, once only a children's activity, has gained popularity as of 2011. As part of the "cirque" movement, performers of all ages are experimenting with the toy, leading to a revival of interest in hoop dancing and hooping performances. If you're interested in learning hooping, you can make your own height-customized hoop.

Instructions

    • 1

Determine the size of the hoop, based on your height. Ideally, the diameter of the hoop should be from the ground to the area between your navel and shoulders, depending on your size preference. Taller hoops spin more slowly, making them easier for beginners to control.

Unroll the PVC tubing and fold it into a hoop. Hold it against your body to check the diameter before cutting the end to the desired length. If you are using a hacksaw to cut the PVC, wear protective gloves and be careful not to scratch the floor.

Heat the cut ends of the hoop with a hair dryer to make them pliable. Slide the connector into one end of the tube, then press the ends together firmly to form the hoop. Wrap the seam in duct tape to secure the connection.
