How to Build a Spinning Merry-Go-Round

Spinning on a merry-go-round is one of the funnest things to do when it comes to playing at a park. You want to ensure that the merry-go-round is safe, but also that is spins easily by pushing yourself around with your foot. Watching the world spin by is something that is not only fun to do, but passes time as well and can be done by children and adults alike. Build one for your backyard.

Things You'll Need

  • Bottom of a computer chair
  • Top circular piece of a dining table
  • Sandpaper
  • 16 to 24 1.5 inch galvanized screws and screwdriver
  • Flat piece of wood as long as the tabletop
  • 2 to 4 children's plastic chairs
  • Paint (optional)

Instructions

      Sand the circular tabletop down. Sand the front, back and around the edges so it is smooth. Apply a coat or two of paint if desired.

      Place the backs of the children's chairs against each other on the top of the table. Screw the chairs down in this position onto the table top tightly. Place one screw into each of the legs of the chair into the tabletop. Children will sit in these seats while spinning, so ensure that they are secured tightly to the tabletop. The screws should be galvanized to ensure that there is no rusting over time.

      Lift the tabletop up, and place the bottom of the computer chair or axle underneath the tabletop. The bottom of the computer chair should be in the middle of the tabletop underneath. Screw the tabletop into the computer chair tightly in the middle of the tabletop. The screws should be placed into the holes at the top of the bottom of the chair and screwed up into the tabletop. There should be a total of four screws screwed into the tabletop.

      Use the flat piece of wood to center the tabletop onto the bottom of the computer chair. This will make the base sturdier. Screw the legs of the chair into the piece of wood. There should be one screw for each leg to sturdy the base of the merry-go-round.
