How to Make a Cowboy Lasso for Kids

Cowboys and Indians has been a favorite game for kids for many generations. One of the iconic cowboy tools is the lasso used to round up cattle or horse. Making a lasso for kids can give them something to play with in the back yard and give them something to achieve as they try to lasso objects such as gate posts. You can make a lasso from an ordinary piece of rope.

Instructions

    • 1

Make a loop in a length of rope. Pass the loose end of the rope back through the loop. Pull it tight. This is called an overhand knot.

    • 2

Create another overhand knot below the first one but do not pull it tight.

    • 3

Bring the knotted end around and through the second overhand knot.

    • 4

Grip the second loop from the top. Pull the loose end of the rope taught. You will be left with a small loop.

    • 5

Feed the loose end of the rope through the small loop. You are left with a lasso loop that you can make bigger and smaller by pulling on the rope and feeding it back to release it.
