How to Make an Air Horn Whistle

Whether attending the Big Game, a graduation or planning for April Fools, air horns are a tool that can come in handy. Known for the characteristically loud, screeching noise they emit, an air horn is sure to attract some well-timed attention. Air horns can be purchased at discount stores, but can also be made at home.

Things You'll Need

33 mm film canister
Drinking straw
Balloon
Scissors

Instructions

  Cut a hole in the bottom of the film can big enough to allow the straw to fit snugly.

  Cut a hole in the side of the cannister for you to blow through.

  Cut the balloon so only about 1/2 inch of the narrow neck remains.

  Remove the top of the film cannister and stretch the bulb of the balloon over the top. Put the top of the cannister back on, covering the balloon.

  Fit the straw into the hole you cut into the bottom of the cannister.
- 6
  Put your mouth over the hole in the side of the cannister and blow. An air-horn like sound should emit from the straw.
