How to Create a Homemade Flip a Frog Game

The Game Board

  Tape pieces of cardboard together until you've got a 6-foot-by-6-foot square. Trim off the corners with scissors so that the square becomes circular.

  Outline a bull's eye with a 1-foot diameter in the center. Write "100" boldly in the center of the bull's-eye and shade the rest of the bull's-eye with the marker.

  Make a larger circle around the bull's-eye. The edge of this circle should be one foot from the edge of the bull's-eye. Write "75" directly below the "100" so that it is in line with and its orientation is the same as the "100." Leave this circle unshaded.

  Make a larger circle around the last one. This circle should be two feet away from the edge of the previous circle. Write "50" below the "75" and shade this circle in.

  Write "25" below the "50." You don't need to leave draw a circle because this is the final circle and the edge of the the cardboard will be the boundary.

The Frogs

  Cut your cloth into rectangular strips of all sizes, although anything much bigger than a 4-inch-by-8-inch piece will be hard to use with the catapult. Pick any rectangle and fold it in half.

  Sew any two sides together, excluding the folded side. Once you have done this, you will have a pouch. Stuff the pouch with rice and sew the only open side left together.

  Sew two long strips of cloth, one to any corner, and then the next to an adjacent corner. These, once launched, will look like the frog's legs.

  Draw a face on the frog. All you need to draw are its lipline and its eyes.

  Make several frogs in the same way. They should be of varying size, and should be stuffed with many different things, like sand or pebbles, so that each frog will launch off the catapult differently.

The Catapult

  Roll several newspapers (and/or magazines) together until you have a tube with a diameter of 3 inches.Tape all the way around the tunnel in the middle and on both ends.

  Place a rubber band underneath the newspaper tunnel. Pull up the rubber band on both sides so that the rubber band forms a U-shape around the tunnel. Thread one end through the other and hold it in place.

  Stick the handle of a soup spoon, or other large cooking utensil, through the loop you've been holding. The utensil ought to be on top of the newspaper with its cupped side up. Move the handle until the utensil rests with its midpoint on top of the newspaper. When you release the loop of the rubber band, it should hold the utensil in place.

  Tape the sides of the newspaper funnel to the ground on the outside of the game board. If you are outside, you could use garden staples to hold the newspaper down, or you could establish a launching area and allow the players to move the catapult within that area.

  Place a frog in the cup of the utensil. To launch, pop the handle down with your fist.
