Tools to Take Apart a Play Set

Play sets come in many different sizes and configurations. Some consist of no more than a swing and a slide, while others host an elaborate configuration of walkways and structures. Typically, a large play set is anchored to the ground with cement. This is to provide stability to the unit. When the kids grow up and no longer need the play set, it is often removed in order to regain lost yard space.
  1. Wrench or Socket Set

    • Most structural components on a play set are attached with nuts and bolts. These components typically use the same size wrench or socket for the bolt head, as well as the nut. Two wrenches, or sockets, of the same size, to fit both are required.

    Hammer

    • The hammer will be needed to drive the bolts out of position, once the nuts have been removed. Once one bolt is removed it can be used, with the hammer, to drive the other bolts out.

    Hand Saw

    • If the play set is anchored in cement, the legs may have to be cut off. If the cement base is to remain in the ground, the legs should be cut flush with the cement. This will allow a mower to pass over it easily, This can be easily done with a hand saw.

    Screwdriver

    • Some of the smaller hardware on a play set is attached with screws These screws can be either straight-head or Philips-head varieties, so both types of screwdriver could be needed.

    Power Drill

    • If the play set uses wood screws to attach its various components, a power drill will be needed to remove them. A small screwdriver bit is installed in the drill, and the screws are powered out.
