How to Make a Paper BB Bullet

"You'll shoot your eye out, kid," Santa Claus tells Ralphie in the movie "A Christmas Story" when the little boy character asks, yet again, for a BB gun for Christmas. The movie would have lacked the humorous oft-repeated line if Ralphie had made clear his intention to use paper BBs as opposed to regular .177-caliber BBs that travel at 280 feet per second. Paper BBs are a somewhat slower and absolutely cheaper alternative.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Fill the cookie pan with water to just below the edges.

    • 2

Lay an unfolded piece of newspaper or scrap paper on top of the water. Allow it to saturate the paper. Replace the water as the paper soaks up the fluid. Newspaper will soak up water faster than heavier paper.

    • 3

Tear small pieces of the saturated paper away from the larger piece and roll them tightly between your thumb and index finger until firm. Approximate the size of a regular BB.

    • 4

Place the compressed ball of paper on the cookie sheet to dry. Space out your paper BBs to decrease drying time.

    • 5

Collect your dried paper BBs in a container and use in place of regular BBs.
