How to Know If Your Boomerang Is Left-Handed

A left-handed person should only throw with a left-handed boomerang. Upon first look, there is little difference between a left- and right-handed boomerang; in fact, the two are mirror images of each other. When thrown, a right-hand boomerang turns counter-clockwise, while a left-hand boomerang turns clockwise. The difference in turns is a result of the direction of torque caused by the point of the fingers. If you're a leftie, you will be unsuccessful when trying to throw a right-handed boomerang because it won't return to you.

Instructions

    • 1

Look for "left handed" written on the boomerang. Most left-handed boomerangs are marked. If the boomerang is not marked, proceed to the next step.

    • 2

Hold either the dingle or lead arm of the boomerang in your left hand. The dingle and lead arms are the two ends of the boomerang.

    • 3

Point the V-point, or elbow of the boomerang, toward your body.

    • 4

Turn the boomerang so the curved side is facing away from you, and the top edge's leading wing is facing toward you. The curved side is often painted. If you can't hold either end of the boomerang with your left hand and still have the curved side of the boomerang facing away from you, it's a right-handed boomerang.
