Installing the T-nuts and Caps, Assembling the Fort Ladder and Frame and Attaching the Floor and Rockwall
Choose a level surface for the Tacoma playset. Place the play center a minimum of 6 feet from any structure including fences, garages, houses, overhanging branches, laundry lines or electrical wires.
Empty the Tacoma Playset box near the area where you are setting it up. Lay out all the pieces, identify all the parts of the set and carefully inspect all parts for defects. Open the hardware bag included and place in a box or secure container.
Locate and gather 2 fort upright pieces, 2 fort ladders and the bag of 2-inch by 4-inch caps. Place the pre-glued caps on the end of the fort ladders; place the caps on the holes of the uprights, 1 1/2 inches from the top. Hammer t-nuts into the three holes on the side of the fort ladders and uprights; use the 5/16-inch t-nuts at the top of the ladders and uprights side and use the 1/4-inch t-nuts in the other 3 holes of the ladders and uprights side. Install t-nuts by placing the t-nut into the drilled holes. Next, tap in with the hammer; place the bolt in the opposite side and hand tighten to make sure that the bolt is securely in the t-nut.
Grab the 2 fort ladders with t-nuts installed. Use the drill with a 3/16-inch bit and drill a 1 1/2-inch deep hole into each wooden rung on both ladders. Secure the ladder rails to the rungs on both ladders; use a 1 1/2-inch tapping screw from the hardware pack and 1/4-inch flat washers through the drilled holes you just made to secure it. Do this for both sides.
Locate and gather the 2 assembled fort ladders, 2 fort uprights, 2 fort ground beams and 2 angled floor supports. Attach the angled floor support to the uprights by using the 1/4 inch by 2 inch hex bolts through the two middle holes -- the holes are on the opposite side of the t-nuts from step 1. Next, attach the fort ground beam to the bottom of the fort uprights by using the 1/4 inch by 2 inch hex bolts to attach them. Repeat these steps to finish the fort ladder.
Locate and gather the 2 ground boards. Attach the ground boards to the bottom rails of the frame, with one ground board on each side. Make sure the boards are even with the ground and use the 2 1/4-inch deck screws to attach them.
Locate and gather the 6 L-brackets and floor panel. Attach the middle floor cleat onto the bottom center of the floor panel; use ten 1 1/2-inch deck screws to attach them. Next, place the floor panel onto both floor supports and place these on each side of the partially assembled unit. Attach these pieces with an L-bracket to each cleat on the panels and floor supports on the unit. You will need to use 6 brackets for this.
Locate and gather 6 Rockwall boards, 1 Rockwall board without rock and 6 Rockwall rocks. Hammer 3/8-inch t-nuts into the largest hole on each of the 6 Rockwall boards. Next, install one of these Rockwall boards by positioning the board even with the bottom of the floor and attaching it to the uprights with four 2 1/4 inch deck screws -- keep the t-nuts facing inside the fort. Now, attach the remaining Rockwall boards with t-nuts to the uprights with 2 1/4 inch deck screws, just as you did with the first Rockwall board. Space the boards about 2 7/8 inches apart, making sure that the rocks are placed so that they alternate sides of the fort. Then, attach the fort rail to the fort, making sure that they are equally spaced out below the last Rockwall board. Attach the Rockwall rocks to each of the Rockwall boards with the 3/8-inch flat head bolt and the 1 1/4-inch deck screws. Attach these bolts in the t-nuts you previously placed.
Assembling and Attaching the Roof and Setting up the Monkey Bar Ladder
Locate and gather the 22 mending plates. Place the mending plates on the outside of the floor upright -- do this on the side you intend to place the monkey bar swing. Next, center a middle hole about 6 1/2 inches down from the top of the floor upright. Attach it with a 1-inch tapping screw in the middle and bottom hole. Angle the plate if you have trouble getting the bottom hole into the upright. Then, attach the middle screw before attaching the bottom screw. The top corner hole does not require a screw.
Locate and gather the 2 tarp end caps, 1 tarp support, 2 monkey bar cross braces and 2 tarp uprights. Hammer 1/4-inch t-nuts into the holes on both of the tarp uprights. Next, attach the 2 tarp uprights to the 2 cross braces by using 1/4 inch by 2 inch hex bolts, 1/4-inch split washers and 1/4-inch flat washers. Now, attach the tarp end caps to the ends of the cross braces using 2 1/4 inch deck screws. Then, attach the tarp support to the top of the tarp uprights using 2 1/4 inch deck screws.
Gather the tarp and assembled tarp. Attach the assembled tarp to the partially assembled unit using 5/16 inch by 2 1/2 inch hex bolts and 1-inch tapping screws; ensure that the hex bolts go into the t-nuts from the outside and the tapping screws go in from the inside of the unit through the triangle mending plate. Next, drape the tarp over the tarp support and end caps. Attach one side of the tarp to the inside of one of the end caps with three 3/4-inch tapping screws and 1/4-inch flat washers. Then, pull the other side of the tarp tight and attach it to the other end cap with three 3/4-inch tapping screws and 1/4-inch flat washers.
Locate and gather 1 assembled top ladder, 1 assembled end ladder, a metal strip and the plastic 2 inch by 4 inch caps. Apply the caps to the ends of the top and bottom ladders. Next, use a drill with a 3/16-inch bit and drill a 1 1/2 inch hole into each wooden rung on both the top and bottom ladders. Now, secure the metal strip to each side of the monkey bar top ladder using 1 1/2 inch tapping screws and 1/4-inch flat washers. Secure the ladder rails to the ladder rungs, on both the top and bottom ladders, using a 1 1/2 inch tapping screw and a 1/4-inch flat washer through the drilled holes you just made and make sure you secure both sides with tapping screws. Then, hammer 5/16-inch t-nuts into the holes at the end of the monkey bar top ladder.
Attaching the Swing Hanger, Assembling and Attaching the Monkey Bar, Attaching the Fort Rail, Handles, Swing and Slide and Anchoring the Playset
Gather the 6 Lag screw swing hangers and screw them into the pilot holes on the top of the ladder.
Gather the top and end ladder, the 4 L-brackets and the 2 metal angle braces. Attach the monkey bar end ladder to the monkey bar top ladder; use the metal angle braces between the 2 ladders and the 5/16 inch by 2 inch hex bolt, 3/4-inch hex bolts, 5/16-inch flat and split washers, 1-inch tapping screws and 5/16-inch t-nuts. Now, attach the 2 L-brackets to the end of each top ladder rail using the 2-inch hex bolts, 5/16-inch lock nut, 5/16-inch flat washers and 5/16 inch by 2 inch hex bolts.
Gather the assembled monkey bar, the 2 monkey bar angle braces and the monkey bar ground beam. Attach the angle braces to the ground beam, using 1/4-inch by 3/4-inch hex bolts and 1/4-inch t-nuts. Next, attach the angle braces to the end ladder with the 1/4-inch by 2 3/4 inch hex bolts. Then, attach the ground beam to the end ladder using the 1/4-inch by 2 1/2 inch lag screws and make sure that the ends are even with the t-nuts. Do not overtighten any bolts because this will cause the ends will protrude through the t-nuts.
Gather the assembled monkey bar. Remove the two 2 1/2-inch hex bolts on the back of the unit that attaches the assembled tarp to the unit. Next, attach the monkey bar to the unit by placing the hex bolts that you just removed though the outside L-brackets and back through the same hole on the floor upright. Place a 1/4-inch by 1-inch lag screw through the inside L-brackets and through the cross brace.
Gather 4 wall slats, 6 hand grips and the Adventure Playsets ID sticker. Attach one of the hand grips to the side of each upright by using the 1/4-inch by 1 1/2-inch lag screw and the 1/4-inch flat washer -- you will end up with a total of four hand grips: two on the right and two in the left side of the fort. Next, attach 2 wall slats to the front and back of the fort by placing the top of the slat on the inside of the tarp cross braces, place the bottom of the slat on the outside of the floor joists; attach these by using two 1 1/4-inch deck screws per place. Then, peel the backing off the Adventure Playset sticker and place it on the front of the tarp.
Trim the plastic coating on the chain of the swing with a pair of scissors or a knife, remove the partial link and throw it away. Repeat this for all the ends of the swing chains. Next, attach the chain to the swing hanger from step 1. Now, grab an S-hook and slide the bigger end of it into the hole located on the swing; use a hammer to close the S-hook by repeatedly striking the outermost edge of the hook. Then, attach the 56-inch chain to the smaller end of the S-hook and use a hammer to close the open end -- do this the same way you closed the other end of the S-hook. Insert the swing hanger through the opening of the plastic swing hanger cover and work around the curves of the swing hanger to fit it properly; loop the chain over the swing hanger, flip the cover over and place it over the opening. Attach the opposite end of the chain to the swing hangers -- adjust the height of the swing chains to meet minimum ground clearance which is 8 inches.
Center the wave slide in the opening that is opposite of the monkey bar. Use a 5/16-inch drill bit and drill a 5/16-inch hole through the indentations on the slide and the fort floor. Next, insert a 1/4-inch by 1 1/4-inch machine truss screw into the holes and secure them with the 1/4-inch flat washers and the 1/4-inch lock nuts from the underside.
Drive stakes into the ground and use the 1-inch tapping screw and the 1/4-inch flat washer to secure them.
