How to Disassemble a Play Set

Play sets are made for young minds and hands to develop motor skills and just enjoy. When not in use, they can be dismantled for storage out of the elements using steps that ensure parts are easy to find and reassemble. Play sets typically include a small slide, fort or playhouse and other challenges and fun places for children. Plastic, wood and steel are common materials used to build play sets and many of the them are modular. The modular design allows for quick assembly and disassembling with minimal tools.

Instructions

    • 1

Spread out a tarp next to the play set. Find the retaining posts to the set -- these typically are found around the play set's fort or playhouse, if it has one. Look over the playset and find the screws and bolts that connect the modular slides and swings.

    • 2

Unscrew any retaining bolts for slides or swings and remove those pieces from the play set. Set them flat on the tarp and put the bolts into a ziplock bag and tape it to the modular piece to which they correspond. For example, keep the bolts for the slide separate from others and tape them to the slide.

    • 3

Remove any swing pivots and chains. Place with the swings. Unscrew any hinges for fort doors. Remove the fort doors and set on the tarp with their hinges and fixtures placed in a ziplock bag and taped to the doors.

    • 4

Assign a helper to stand opposite you while you dismantling the retaining posts. Posts are typically held together with metal brackets secured with screws. Unscrew all brackets and place in a ziplock bag. Begin removing the walls and stack them flat on the tarp as you remove the metal brackets and screws holding them together. Tape the bag holding the bolts, screws and fixtures to the walls.

Fold the tarp over and around the play set pieces and tie closed with bungee cords or nylon twine.
