How to Make a Super Soaker

Chances are, you have all the materials you will need to build your own powerful water gun right in your own garage. With a little time and patience, you can create your own super soaker that will rival any plastic toy store version in your neighborhood. Use care when assembling the water gun, and be sure an adult is available to help cut the tubing and work with any sharp objects.

Things You'll Need

Plastic 2-liter soda bottle
Length of 1/4-inch-wide tubing
2 garden hose attachments
Garden hose sprayer
Ball valve that fits on the tubing
Drill and drill bit
Electrical tape
Garden hose

Instructions

  Using the drill, make a hole in your bottle cap the same size or slightly smaller than the width of your tubing.

  Screw the garden hose attachment into your spray nozzle, being sure that it is tight. This is the most common place to have water leaks.

  Screw the bottle cap back onto the 2-liter bottle. Insert the tubing into the bottle, all the way down to the bottom. Use a little electrical tape around the insertion point of the tube on the bottle cap to hold it in place.

  Fit the ball valve onto the other end of the tubing. Fit the other end of the valve onto your garden hose sprayer.

  Take the tubing end off of your spray nozzle and insert a garden hose. Use the hose to fill up the 2-liter bottle. Be careful--the bottle and tubing are now pressurized from the garden hose. Turn the ball valve and reattach your spray nozzle to the tubing. Turn the bottle so it is cap-side down. Use the spray nozzle to squirt. Your homemade water gun should shoot 40 feet depending on the type of spray nozzle you used.
