Water Toys
If you are giving a kid a gift during the summer months, toys that will help her keep cool are an option. Children fill squirt guns with water and then spray one another, which is both fun and cooling. If the child has a pool in her backyard, pool toys will keep her occupied while she swims. Foam noodles, child-themed lounge chairs, squirt guns for pools, goggles and dive sticks are all options.
Bubbles
Bubbles are an inexpensive toy that is suitable for occasions that warrant a small gift. Bubbles as a gift tend to go over better with younger kids, though now there are brightly colored bubbles, called Zubbles, that older children may find interesting.
Jump Ropes
Jump ropes are another inexpensive gift for kids. When you purchase a jump rope as a gift, you should consider the child's age and the length of the rope. If the child is older and taller, you will need a longer rope. You will also need a longer rope if the child likes to play jump rope games with her friends.
Wheels
A bicycle, skateboard, scooter or a pair of in-line skates is a suitable gift for an active child who does not own one or more of these items. Take into account the child's age and ability before purchasing any of these gifts. Consider purchasing safety gear to go with the gift as well.
Sidewalk Chalk or Paint
Sidewalk chalk and sidewalk paint are washable art utensils that are for use on asphalt driveways and sidewalks. Kids can use them to make hopscotch boards, make pictures and play tic-tac-toe. If the child you are presenting a gift with does not have sidewalk or driveway available to him, this may not be the best gift choice.
Playground Equipment
Playground equipment is a pricey gift for kids that takes up lawn space. It also typically takes some assembly. However, slides, see-saws and jungle gyms are fun for kids and take some physical exertion to use. Check the safety and age requirements of the equipment before purchasing.
