How to Use a Red Ryder BB Gun

The Red Ryder BB gun was introduced in 1938 as a child-friendly replica of the Winchester rifle. Shooting your Red Ryder BB gun can be a pleasant way to spend the afternoon. Potential targets include paper bull's-eyes, aluminum cans and cardboard cutouts of the infamous cowboy, "Black Bart." Loading and operating your weapon of choice against tyranny and oppression is a relatively simple procedure. Just don't shoot your eye out.

Instructions

    • 1

Activate the "safety" by moving the lever to the rightmost position. You should only turn the safety off when you are about to fire.

    • 2

Lay your gun on a flat surface. It should be resting on its right side.

    • 3

Push the loading door in and up to open. The loading door is located near the gun muzzle.

    • 4

Pour your BBs into the ammunition reservoir. Slide the loading door closed when you are finished loading the gun.

    • 5

Pick up your gun and raise the muzzle at a 45 degree angle, as your Red Ryder features a gravity-fed loading mechanism.

    • 6

Pull the cocking level away from the rifle to ready the spring. After seven clicks, swing the cocking lever back into place.

    • 7

Turn off the safety by sliding the switch to the leftmost position.

    • 8

Aim the rifle at your target. Look down the barrel and position the forward sight so that the top edge lines up with the top edge of the rear sight. Aim the forward sight just below the center of the bull's-eye.

    • 9

Pull the trigger to fire the BB.

    • 10

Add two drops of 20 grade oil to the designated hole after every 500 shots. Add a drop of oil to the cocking lever and trigger assembly after every 250 shots.

    • 11

Clean your Red Ryder BB gun by wiping it down with a clean lint-free cloth, taking special care to wipe all screws to prevent rusting.
