Directions for Monkey Bars

Monkey bars, which are also called jungle gyms, are outdoor playground equipment constructed of strong metal. The device consists of an elevated frame with evenly spaced metal bars that are slightly less than one arm's length apart. The object of monkey bars is to start at one end and pull your way across the length of the equipment using only your arms. Although the most basic set of monkey bars are in a straight line, more advanced monkey bars have twisting designs or elevated slopes.

Instructions

      Position yourself at the outer edge of one side of the monkey bars.

      Hold on to the two vertical poles with your hands and step upward onto the metal bar located several feet above ground level. This bar raises you up so it is easier to reach the first top bar.

      Keep one hand on the vertical pole and place your other hand onto the horizontal bar directly in front of you.

      Release your first hand from the vertical pole and place it onto the first horizontal bar where your other hand is located. Remove your feet from the device so that you are hanging only by your hands.

      Stretch one hand forward and grasp the next horizontal bar firmly.

      Remove your other hand and place it on the same bar as well. Continue this movement until you reach the other side of the monkey bars.
