Basic Swing Set
The most basic of outdoor play equipment would be the wooden equivalent to the metal swing sets. These swing sets one or two swings with a slide and maybe a set of rings with a bar between to hang from. Most allow for expansion as the child grows and the budget allows. Latter additions can include a rock-climbing wall, monkey bars, a rope climb, see-saw or a fort.
Deluxe Swing Set
A deluxe swing set includes all of the features of the basic swing set and a fort. This idea allows for two regular swings and then space for a see-saw swing or rings. Extend the main post supporting the swings to create space for another swing, such as a toddler swing. Instead of just a ladder to climb, attach a slide or a fort. Not only does this give your kids some shade, but lets them use their imaginations to turn a fort into something else. The space under the fort can be used as a sandbox. Enclosing this area only provides more shade.
Custom Playground
Buying a prefabricated playground isn't your only option. Search online for different playground plans. Start with a single swing when your child is small and build from there. You can add tree houses and make a multilevel play area.
