Wet Trampoline Safety

Trampolines are a common backyard toy, but they have a bad reputation for injuries. Follow safety precautions to ensure that your trampoline provides fun without being hazardous.
  1. Trampolines

    • Trampolines are a gymnastic apparatus made by stretching a strong canvas sheet and attaching it with springs to a metal frame. Trampolines are used for jumping and tumbling activities.

    Trampoline Safety

    • Safety measures for trampoline use include: using an enclosure to prevent users from falling off the trampoline; allowing only one jumper at a time; supervising children who are using the trampoline; and covering the springs with shock-absorbent pads.

    Enclosures

    • Many trampoline retailers also sell safety enclosures. These enclosures are nets that surround the trampoline to prevent jumpers from falling off. An alternative to an enclosure is placing your trampoline in a hole so that the trampoline is at ground level.

    Wet Trampolines

    • Trampoline mats are too slippery when wet to allow safe jumping. Jumping on a wet trampoline is more hazardous than jumping on a dry one and increases your risk of serious injury. If you are going to use a wet trampoline, be sure to follow other trampoline safety measures, such as only allowing one person on the trampoline at a time.

    Injury Causes

    • According to the Consumer Products Safety Commission, most trampoline injuries are caused by collisions with another person on the trampoline, improper landings, falling off the trampoline or falling onto or through the springs.
