Installation
Installing an above-ground swimming pool is much easier, cleaner and less time consuming than installing an in-ground pool. After you have a location picked and prepped, you can set up some above ground pools in a matter of hours. Unfortunately, many above ground pool kits do not come with labor assistance, so unless you hire a contractor, you will put it up yourself. Of course, offering cold drinks, a barbecue and some pool time in exchange for a little help will likely get you more hands than you need to get it installed.
Simple Structure
Above ground pools are only around as long as you want them. Because of their simple structure they can be taken down or moved. However, this also makes them less sturdy and durable than a concrete, in-ground pool. Above ground pools can get punctures in the liners and the walls. The side boards can bend and break, as can the braces. Not only does this cause a watery mess in your back yard, but it is expensive to clean up and repair or replace.
Aesthetics
Above ground pools are not the most attractive thing to look at. The pool sits high above the ground and does not blend into the natural environment. However, you can do some creative landscaping or build a deck around it. Not only will this conceal the pool's outer shell, it will provide more usable space around the pool for chairs and loungers. A deck also makes the pool more accessible.
Typical Costs
An above ground pool is not cheap, but it is much less than an in-ground pool. Estimated costs (provided by costhelper.com) for an above ground pool could run between $1,500.00 and $5,000.00. However, installation of an in-ground pool can cost between $7,000.00 and $45,000.00 for standard sizes. Custom designs cost even more.
